The Burden of Survival

I have created a piece based in the idea of "always being prepared" a motto I from the scouts and something I feel is imbedded in our cultural subconcious in this modern society. I carry things to and from college on a daily basis usually in three or more bags. I was interested in why i did this and in what kind of footprint a person can leave behing through threir posessions as they pass through life. I am trying to capture an image of my identity through the possessions I surround myself with. The act of carrying junk and materials to and from college is a ritual I wish also to capture, the idea of a self inflicted burden. It accuratley depicts some of my feelings of worry, being weighed down and the anxiety to always have enough.

These are some images below of my final piece which was a survival backpack with the objects I would need bound immobile to the outside of the back piece. You can see all of the objects but they are difficult to reach and inconveniently out of reach from the wearer.

They are not necessary survival objects, but then again are we really in touch with what we need to survive?.
